Funeral services for Mr. John E. "Jr." Slade II will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Townsend and Bro. Tim Post officiating. Interment will follow in Start Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Slade was an ordained Baptist minister and a retiree of International Paper Company. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a Korean War Veteran. He also was the 1950 Mississippi State Golden Gloves Champion, loved to umpire Dixie Majors Baseball, loved to play the guitar and harmonica and writing songs. He was known for his peppers, pepper sauce and pepper jelly.
Mr. Slade, is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Temple Slade; parents, John E. Slade I and Alma Townsend Slade; brothers, Scotty A. Slade, Carley Slade; sisters, Mildred Slade Murphy, Elizabeth Slade; and son-in-law, Rickey Lewis.
Mr. Slade, is survived by his wife, Sherry McGee Slade; two daughters, Cathy Jo Slade Lewis and Carol J. Slade Redden and husband Harvey W. Redden Jr; two sons, John E. Slade, III and wife Sherri Spann Slade and Steve L. Slade and fiancée Amy Cureington; brother, James Thomas Slade and wife Winnie; grandchildren, Sabrina Lewis, Naomi Lewis, Joseph Slade Redden, Jennifer Redden West, Candace Joles, Jacob Slade, Clifton Slade, and Clayton Slade; numerous great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Dennis worked as a Data Center Manager at the Medical University of South Carolina for 30 years. He loved his job and was always willing to help anyone that was in need, putting others before himself. He was an avid LSU and Saints fan, and enjoyed going to hockey games. He was a man anyone could go to for help. Most of all he loved his family more than anything.
Dennis leaves behind his significant other, Melissa Gore of Summerville, SC; sons, Eric Slade of Zachary, LA and Kevin Carls of Summerville, SC; daughters, Kasey Crawford of Irmo, SC, Krystal Slade of Summerville, SC, Jessica Young (Derek Young) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Rachael Droze of Summerville, SC; sister, Pam Greer of Bastrop, LA; grandmother, Nellie Prisock of Bastrop, LA; and grandchildren, Tagan and Prezlee Crawford, Eloira Carls, and Emery Young.
