He loved to cook, fish, garden, enjoyed the horserace track and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He served in the U. S. Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. After his tour of duty, he remained in Hawaii and became a police officer. He met Agnes while in Hawaii. In 1960, the family all moved to California where he owned and operated a service station. Survivors include: His wife, Agnes Slade, and children: Ray Santos, Charlie Santos, Gordon Santos, Claudia Smith, Wilma Johnson and William Slade, Jr. His daughter, Vicki Allen, predeceased him. He had numerous beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He led an unselfish life and was a devoted husband and father. He was greatly loved by his family and will be clearly missed and remembered. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM.

Mr. Slade is survived by his wife, Ethel Slade; a son, Dwayne Slade; daughters Angela Thomas and Cherry Slade; brothers Rev. Jessie Slade, Hilton Slade, William Brown and Billy Brown; a sister, Glenda Faye Munn and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lucretia Acki-Slade.2
QUINLAN , Hunt Co, TX Gaston Ray Slade of West Tawakoni died Tuesday in Greenville. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. today at Lakeside Memorial Park. Son of Johnny and Brunettie Claborn Slade, he was born Jan. 19, 1932 in Lamar County, Miss. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Slade was a truck driver. He was a born again Christian. Mr. Slade is survived by his wife, Ethel Slade; a son, Dwayne Slade; daughters Angela Thomas and Cherry Slade; brothers Rev. Jessie Slade, Hilton Slade, William Brown and Billy Brown; a sister, Glenda Faye Munn and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lucretia Acki-Slade.2
