COUNTY SCHOOL TEACHER DIES
Funeral services were held at the family home in Lumberton Monday afternoon for Mrs. Toledo Ladner Owens, 51, who died Sunday night from a heart ailment following a short illness.
The Rev. E. A. King, Lumberton, and Rev. F. A. Applewhite, Purvis, officiated. Pall bearers were R. W. Hinton, Jr., M. A. Pigford, L. S Anderson, H. J. Brenner, Oswell Bunk and L. D. Fulmer. Burial was in the Lumberton cemetery with McDonald Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Owens was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam E. Slade, one of the oldest families in Lamar county. She was a member of the Methodist church where she taught a class of young women in Sunday School and was church pianist for nearly 20 years.
Mrs. Owens graduated at Mississippi Normal College, Hattiesburg, April of 1916. For the past 25 years she has taught in the various schools of Lamar and Pearl River counties. For the past two years she was a member of the faculty of the Thomas school in this county.
Mrs. Owens leaves two sons, Walter H. Ladner and Richard Decell Ladner of Lumberton; one brother, J. O. Slade, Hattiesburg; and one sister, Mrs. Barbara Cocker, Lisman, Ala.
