He would take a team of oxen on a wagon train to the Gulf Coast for supplies. The round trip journey would take about two weeks. Calvin was a member of the old Central Baptist Church, near his home place. The young folk would come to his house on Sundays, play the organ and sing gospel songs.1 Calvin died on October 14, 1924 at age 692 and was buried in Boone Cemetery, Lamar County, Mississippi.3,2

Services were held at 3 pm Wednesday at Clear Branch Baptist Church for Charles Guy "Mack" Slade who died Monday at the county home. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr Slade was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Guy Lavelle Slade; Three sisters: Mrs C W (Elna) Newman, Mrs Jack (Lobelia ) Downs, and Mrs Marinda Dubose; Two brothers: Rimbert of Purvis and Albert of Biloxi.8
