SLADE, Mentor H. age 89 of Dayton, OH, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Emeritus at Fox Run, Fairborn, OH, following an extended illness. Mentor was born March 11, 1922 in Greenville, OH, son of the late Frank E. and Myrtle (Canady) Slade. He proudly served his country as a Warrant Officer in the 11th Armored Division of the US Army from 1940-1945. Mentor fought throughout Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton. He returned to Dayton and married the love of his life, Marjorie Clawson and personally built their first home. Mentor enjoyed working on projects and spending time with family. He was a member of Ft. McKinley E.U.B. Church. Mentor retired from Dayton Power and Light after 32 years of service. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Mark (Bess) Slade of Englewood, OH; 2 daughters, Jeanne (James) Darling of Springfield, OH and Heather Williams of Riverside, OH; 4 granddaughters, Dr. Natalie Slade (Chad) Armentrout, Nicole (Ryan) Eatough, Chelsea (Charles) Masden and Stephanie (John) Unger; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet (Harold) West of Beavercreek, OH; sister-in-law, Mary Slade of Centerville, OH; many other loving family members and friends. Mentor was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie (Clawson) Slade; 2 sisters, Lucille (Bob) Yount and Virginia (Harold) Steinke; 2 brothers, Don Slade and Harold (Dorothy) Slade.
