(Criterion E.1)
Description: The Queen's Head Hotel occupies a corner site opposite the Courthouse in the central part of town. It is a very important element in the streetscape and one which contributes to Wilcannia's historic character. The Hotel is a mid-Victorian vernacular building with some stylistic details. It is a brick, L-shaped single storey structure with a footpath width verandah running along the Cleaton Street facade and returning down the Reid Street elevation. The rear section of the building is exposed brick with double hung paned windows. The corner section is a smooth faced render with ashlar coursing marked on the render. The render has been painted, and there is smooth dressed stone to window sills. A distinctive feature of the building is its parapet (splayed on the corner) which features recessed panels and brick pier capitals protruding above the parapet with some Victorian Italianate details in the mouldings. Behind the parapet is a hipped iron roof. Doors leading onto the street are four panel; windows have been altered to two pane type. There is some original joinery.
