Betty Jane Slade1

     Betty Jane Slade was born on September 20, 1919 in Oswego County, New York.1 She was the daughter of Harold W. Slade and Ethel Mae DeBusy.1 Betty died on May 4, 2013 in New York at age 93.2 Her obituary read as follows:

      Betty Slade Buchanan Lowe, 93, of Phoenix, NY, Pleasant Lake, and Clay, passed away on Saturday May 4, 2013. Born to her late parents, Ethel May (DeBusy)

and Harold W. Slade on September 20, 1919. She received her bachelors degree from Oswego State College, and nearly earning her masters degree as well. Betty taught Art in the Junior High and Elementary schools for Phoenix Central Schools.

Betty was an accomplished artist, specializing in oil paintings. She enjoyed camping, hiking, world travel, and loved her home on Pleasant Lake, Schroeppel. Predeceased by her husband, Robert G. Lowe on April 21, 2001. Surviving are her son, James R. and his wife, Emily Buchanan of Minoa; three grandchildren, Andrew (Denice) Buchanan of N. Syracuse, Meghan Buchanan of E. Syracuse, Shauna Buchanan of N. Syracuse; one great-grandson, Aidan; and one great-granddaughter, Emmy.2

     Wyatt Slade was born on July 22, 1815 in Surry County, Virginia.2,3 He was the son of Jesse Slade and Rebecca [?].4,2 Wyatt Slade was New Tag in 1816 in Virginia.1 He was listed as a carpenter in the census.
     Wyatt married Martha Jane Holdsworth on January 31, 18554,5, the daughter of Ann & Archer Holdsworth.4 The marriage record of Martha Holdsworth & Wayatt Slade lists his parents as Rebecca & Jesse Slade.4 Wyatt Slade was appointed surveyor of roads in Cypress Church precinct in Virginia in June, 1862. Wyatt died on February 12, 1884 in Virginia at age 68.6

     Catharine Adams was born in 1819 in Pennsylvania.3
     Catharine married Andrew J. Slade on February 22, 1849 in Washington County, Illinois.4 On September 22, 1863, Catherine was granted a Widows Pension of Eight Dollars per month for her and six children under eighteen years of age. Her husband Andrew died April 17, 1862 as result of wounds recieved in the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee.2

     Hazel Pauline Slade was born on November 16, 1931 in Mason County, West Virginia.1,2 She was the daughter of William Russell Slade and Belva Juanita Rodgers.1
     Hazel married Hubert Oscar Yost, son of Roy Yost and Kathleen McAfee, on October 31, 1949 in Gallia County, Ohio.3 Hazel died on July 3, 2010 in Eleanor, Ohio, at age 784 and was buried in Suncrest Cemetery, Point Pleasant, Mason County, West Virginia.2,4 Her obituary read as follows:

      Hazel Pauline Yost, 78, of Eleanor, formerly of Arbuckle, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital following a long illness.

She was a homemaker for most of her life, but spent time working at the Eleanor Post Office and Country Mart in Leon. She was a member of the Leon Baptist Church and she loved her family. She enjoyed quilting, watching NASCAR races, working outdoors and spending time in her garden.

Born November 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William Slade and Belva Rogers Slade. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Hubert Yost, and an infant brother.

She is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Larry) Adkins of Milton and Ginny (David) Cunningham of Eleanor; brothers, Glen Slade of MacArthur, Ohio, and Furl Slade of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Dorothy Sargent of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters, Cassandra (Jerry) Meeker of Ona and Kendra Cunningham and Casey Cunningham, both of Eleanor; and special brothers- & sisters-in-law who, meant so much to her, Bobby and Donna Yost, Juanita Boardman, Carroll and Genny Yost, David and Marlin Yost, and Keith and Margie Carpenter; as well as special nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Basil Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Suncrest Cemetery, Point Pleasant.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
