     Caleb S. Slade was born on April 1, 1799 in Pittstown, Rensselaer County, New York.1 He was the son of Joseph Slade and Elsie Sherman.
     Caleb married Catherine Babcock, daughter of John Babcock and Magdalena Waeger, in Grafton, Rensselaer County, New York.2 On Nov 11, 1837, Caleb Slade of Troy, Rensselaer County, New York submitted specifications of Letters Patent No 457 for "new and useful Improvements in Stoves for Burning Coal and also in Ovens and in Boilers".3 He was a farmer and storekeeper; prominent in political affairs, honest and sespected by all.2 Caleb died on December 8, 1864 in Grafton, New York, at age 65.2 He was buried in Babcock-Slade Cemetery, Grafton, Rensselaer County, New York.4
