[Walter claims his birth was Apr 3, 1833 on his WWI draft registration, the 1900 census shows Apr 1882 and his death certificate has Apr 3, 1881 by his wife, Eva as informant. Since Walter himself gave the WWI info, we believe it is likely the most accurate date and have used that].2,5,3

Oscar W. Peterson1

(18 March 1890 - 25 January 1927)
Oscar W. Peterson was born on March 18, 1890 in Bonne Terre, Saint Francois County, Missouri.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Emanuel Peterson and Mary Elizabeth Williford.1 Oscar is listed as Oscar W Peterson in the 1900 census, as is his sister Pearl. Peterson was registered for the military draft in World War I on June 5, 1917 in Webb City, Jasper County, Missouri, His WWI Draft Registration card lists name as Oscar W Slade, with wife an child.9 He was a miner with Hurry Up Mining Company, North of Webb City.9 Oscar died on January 25, 1927 in Leadwood, Missouri, at age 36.4 He was buried in Leadwood Cemetery, Saint Francois County, Missouri.4

The Death Certificate of Oscar Slade gives his father as John Wesley Slade and mother Marie Elizabeth Wolfe, even though he was born two years after she married Peterson. The informant was Frank Slade, Leadwood, MO [his older brother]. He may have been born a Peterson and changed his name to Slade. About the only way to identify the true father of Oscar would be using Y-chomosome DNA test. It would also be necessary to have another true Slade descendant to take a test and compare.4 He was known as Oscar W. Slade.2,3
