Gloria Gordon1

     Gloria Gordon was born on May 26, 1922 in Wilcox County, Georgia.1 She was the daughter of William Elige Gordon and Laura Birdie Howell.1
     Gloria married John B. Slade, son of Thomas Jefferson Slade and Sara Jane McKinney.1 Gloria died on February 1, 2009 at age 86.1 Her obituary read as follows:

     

     Funeral services for Gloria Gordon Slade will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Slade, 86, passed away Sunday at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Wilcox County and was the daughter of the late William Elige and Laura Birdie Howell Gordon.

     She was a 1938 graduate of Pitts High School, where she was Salutatorian of her class. Mrs. Slade received a B.S. degree from Georgia Southwestern College and later attended Valdosta State College and taught school in Wilcox County for a number of years. She was a homemaker and a member of Cordele First Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was also a past member of the Cordele Garden Club and secretary of the WMU.

     Mrs. Slade is survived by two daughters, Sandra Slade of Cordele and Gloria Jean Best and her husband, Glenn of Griffin; two grandsons and their wives, Slade and Wendy Walker of Griffin and Scott and Aida Walker of Upland, Calif; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Walker and Jakob Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Slade, and her siblings, Rosalyn Pate, Elliott Gordon, Dorothy Paulk, Howell Gordon, Lyndon Gordon and Mildred Johnson. The family may be contacted at the residence of her daughter, Sandra Slade, at 351 N. Coney Road, Cordele, GA 31015.1
She was buried in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia.1
