WHITE HALL, MD C. Eldon Slade, 91, died Friday, February 4, 2011, at Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Shrewsbury. He was the husband of the late Mary Ellen (Curry) Slade. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary with Pastor Bruce C. Frame officiating. B o r n July 10, 1919, in W h i t e Hall, Md., Eldon was the son of the late J a m e s Elmer and Nellie Ray (Almony) Slade. He was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church. Eldon served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 612th Coast Artillery Battery in the Pacific Theatre for three and a half years. From 1945-1961 he was owner and operator of the former Slade Store at West Liberty, in White Hall. He then moved to Graystone Road and became a farmer for over 10 years and later retired. Surviving are a sister, Evelyn McCullough; sister-inlaw, Jane Leffel and her husband, Jim; many nieces and nephews; and many greatnieces and nephews. he was predeceased by a brother, J. Carroll Slade; and two sisters, Miriam S. Snyder and Ella R. Mullis.

     James Carroll Slade was born circa 1915 in Maryland.^1,2 He was the son of James Elmer Slade and Nellie Ray Almony.¹
     James married Helen M. Fishel.³ James died on January 17, 2006.³ He was buried in Vernon UMC Cemetery, White Hall, Baltimore County, Maryland.^3,2 His obituary read as follows:

      On January 17, 2006, J. CARROLL SLADE, of White Hall, MD. Devoted husband of the late Helen M. (nee Fishel) Slade, beloved father of Lynn C. Slade and Byron F. Slade, dear brother of Eldon Slade, Evelyn Mc Cullough and Ella Mullis. Also survived by grandchildren, Matthew, Lyndon and Kristin Slade, Dena Borchardt and Kelly and Matthew Anthony, and great-grandchildren, Madeline and Rebecca Borchardt, Zane Slade and Allison Murray. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 20, at 12 noon from Vernon United Methodist Church, Vernon Road, White Hall, MD. Burial is in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the J.J.      Charlie married Ella R. Slade, daughter of James Elmer Slade and Nellie Ray Almony.² Charlie died on July 7, 2000 at age 83.¹ He was buried in Trail Branch Baptist Ch Cemetery, Cochran, Bleckley County, Georgia.¹

     Ella Mae Slade was born in September, 1869 in Illinois.¹ She was the daughter of Abraham Slade and Amanda M. Lytle.¹ Ella died in 1928.² She was buried in Columbus Cemetery, Adams County, Illinois.²

     Adella H. Slade was born on September 29, 1866 in Adams County, Illinois.^2,3 She was the daughter of Abraham Slade and Amanda M. Lytle.¹
     Adella married James W. Limb on December 2, 1891 in Illinois.⁴ Adella died on February 22, 1945 at age 78 and was buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Adams County, Illinois.⁵

     Seldon O. Slade was born circa 1875 in Adams County, Illinois.¹ He was the son of Abraham Slade and Amanda M. Lytle.¹
     Seldon married Alta B. Six, daughter of William Six and Martha Young, on October 30, 1901 in Brown County, Illinois.² Seldon died on November 26, 1943.³ He was buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Adams County, Illinois.³

     Julia V. Slade was born circa 1861 in Adams County, Illinois.¹ She was the daughter of Abraham Slade and Amanda M. Lytle.¹
     Julia married James E. Simmonds on October 3, 1892 in Hebron Methodist Episcopal Church, Camp Point, Adams County, Illinois.²

     James married Adella H. Slade, daughter of Abraham Slade and Amanda M. Lytle, on December 2, 1891 in Adams County, Illinois.¹ James died on March 21, 1916 at age 51.³ He was buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Adams County, Illinois.³

     Mary Alverta Slade was born in July, 1866 in Adams County, Illinois.¹ She was the daughter of Creighton Slade and Mary Pearce.¹ Mary died on October 14, 1867 at age 1.¹ She was buried in Columbus Cemetery, Adams County, Illinois.¹

     Thomas Satterwhite Harrison was born on July 22, 1842 in Purley, Caswell County, North Carolina.¹ He was the son of Samuel Satterwhite Harrison and Louisa McDaniel.¹

     Thomas married second Isabella Slade, daughter of Thomas Slade and Mary Elizabeth Tabor, on July 27, 1879 in North Carolina.¹ Isabel was the sister of his first wife, Adeline. Isabel and Thomas S. Harrison were parents of three children, all born in Caswell County:

     Sarah married Albert J. White on May 6, 1906 in York County, Pennsylvania.³ Sarah died on August 26, 1964 in Pennsylvania at age 78.¹ She was buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, York County, Pennsylvania.⁴

     Mary Jo Burkholder was born on May 6, 1861 in Bedford County, Virginia.¹
     Mary married Thomas Satterwhite Harrison, son of Samuel Satterwhite Harrison and Louisa McDaniel, on October 25, 1892 in Virginia.¹ Mary died on February 10, 1904 in Blanch, Caswell County, North Carolina, at age 42.¹

     Emma Roberta Slade was born on November 28, 1899 in Baltimore County, Maryland.^1,2 She was the daughter of Josiah Leonard Slade and Mary B. Norris.¹
     Emma married Stanley Milton Slade, son of Harvey Milton Slade and Clara E Tipton. Emma died on September 21, 1989 at age 89.² She was buried in Vernon UMC Cemetery, White Hall, Baltimore County, Maryland.²

     Mary married Josiah Leonard Slade, son of Christopher Slade Jr. and Maria Elizabeth Carlin, circa 1897.¹ Mary died on October 10, 1936 at age 62² and was buried in Vernon UMC Cemetery, White Hall, Baltimore County, Maryland.²
