Edna Mae Slade 80, of Independence, Iowa died Monday, October 3, 2016 at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center's West Campus in Independence.Edna was born on Feb. 24, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Alton R. and Mabel V. (Bush) Brown. She was raised in the Tiffin, Iowa and graduated from Tiffin High School in 1954. She received a degree in Radiology from the University of Iowa in 1955. On Nov. 2, 1956 she married Clarence A. Slade in Tiffin, and the couple made their home in Independence, where Edna was employed with Peoples Memorial Hospital for 41 years prior to her retirement.She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren's sporting events. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes Football and Basketball games.She is survived by two daughters: Carla Slade, Marion, Iowa and Corrine (Rob) Corkery, Walker, Iowa; three grandchildren: Erica Corkery, North Liberty, Iowa, Clark Corkery, Rowley, Iowa, and Cecily Corkery, Walker, Iowa; and one sister, Jeanne Schwab, Iowa City.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence A. Slade in 2014; a brother Robert Brown; and two sisters: Mary Ann Eaton, and Suzannah (Pink) Neuzil.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, with Rev. Shari Andersen officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 a.m. till Services Friday at the funeral home.
