She was a very generous and loving person, an avid gardener and loved baking especially for her friends and family. Ramsey Venoit Slade was known by his intials R. V.1 He was born on January 12, 1923 in Louisiana.2 He was the son of Alton Lee Slade and Clara Griffin.
Ramsey married Ernestine Odom, daughter of Heard Odom and Audrie Turnage, on July 9, 1939.1 R. V. served in the U. S. Army in World War II in Europe. Following the war he returned home and took a job at Commercial Solvents, Inc., Sterlington, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana where he worked for several years.
When R. V.'s mother, Clara, died August 3, 1945, he inherited her part of the Truxno store. When Bryan, Lee's brother and partner, died April 5, 1962, R. V. bought out Lee and Bryan's part in the store. Ernestine and R. V. operated the store from then until R. V. had a heart attack in 1985. After that the store was rented by Juan A. Burnside for his daughter, Laura, in 1987 for about three years. The store was then rented by Doodle Harvey for his daughter, Bonnie, for 1991, 1992 and 1993. However, the store burned February 6, 1993 and the site is now a vacant lot on the southwest corner of the crossroads.3 R.V. died on September 12, 1997 in Union Parish, Louisiana, at age 74.1 Ramsey Venoit Slade was buried in Conway Cemetery, Conway, Union Parish, Louisiana.4
