Clem Trippe Slade1

     Clem Trippe Slade went by Trippe. He was born on September 8, 1920 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.2 He was the son of James Clem Slade Jr. and Estelle Trippe.1 Clem Trippe Slade was registered for World War 2 draft on August 20, 1942 while living in Avondale Estates, Dekalb County, Georgia, at 13 Dartmonth Avenue.3
     Clem married Wilfrieda Westby Donaghy on April 7, 1956 in Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia.2 She was the daughter of Wilfrieda Westby & James King Donaghy.4 Clem died on January 2, 2009 at age 88.2 His obituary read as follows:

      C. Trippe Slade, son of J.C. and Estelle Trippe Slade, was born in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia on September 8, 1920, and died on January 2, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was a graduate of Boys High School and Emory University, both in Atlanta. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II under General Mark Clark. As a medic, he crossed North Africa and then into southern Italy. After the war, he worked as a Trust Officer for the First National Bank for many years, which then became Wachovia, and retired as senior Vice President and Trust Officer. After retiring from the bank, he worked for The Exposition Company, a private foundation. He was a founding member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church and subsequently a founding member of St. Andrew's on the River Catholic Church. He was active for 30+ years in Boys Club of America, receiving several awards for this distinguished service and dedication; and was a member of the Jaycee's. He was active in founding the Chattahoochee Nature Center, also serving as its 2nd president. He was a member of the Board of Visitors at Oglethorpe University and a member of Cherokee Town & Country Club. In his younger years, he was described as a fun-loving, twinkle-toed dancer with a contagious smile. He leaves his devoted wife of 52 years, Fifi, their four children, daughter Claudia and her husband Scott Madigan, daughter Mary-Trippe and her husband Capt. James R. Everett III (U.S. Navy), son Westby and his wife Patti Slade, and son Col. (sel.) Collier (U.S. Army) and his wife Teka Slade. Ten grandchildren: Mary-Scott Madigan, Scott Nathan Madigan, Jr., Kathleen Anne Bonecutter and her husband 1st Lt. Chad Bonecutter (U.S. Marine Corps), James R. Everett IV, Jacob Heyes Everett, Mary-Margaret Everett, Katherine Rose Slade, James Westby Slade, Jr., Rebecca Chenaud Slade, and Luiza Drahmer Slade; and one great-grandchild, Colton Matthew Bonecutter. In addition, he leaves a sister Mary Charlotte Robinson of Salt Lake City, Utah and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors on January 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at H.M. Patterson & Sons - Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Funeral services will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Drive, Atlanta, GA 30328, on Tuesday, January 6 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, Ga, 30328. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home, 760 Pollard Bolívar, SW, Atlanta, GA 30315; or Compassionate Hospice, 1801 Peachtree St, Ste 100, Atlanta, GA 30309. Arrangements by H.M. Patterson and Son; Arlington Chapel, Sandy Springs, Georgia.2 and was buried in Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, Fulton County, Georgia.2

Odessa Maddox

(26 October 1887 - 9 June 1973)
     Odessa Maddox was born on October 26, 1887 in Pike County, Georgia.1,2 She was the daughter of William Walter Maddox and Amanda James Bussey.3
     Odessa married Joseph Samuel Slade, son of Samuel Simon Slade and Martha Ann Storey, on January 18, 1911. She was the only woman in Meansville who drove during the World War I. She drove the women to the cotton fields and did little cotton picking herself.2 Odessa died on June 9, 1973 in Meansville, Pike County, Georgia, at age 85.4 She was buried in Fincher Memorial Cemetery, Meansville, Pike County, Georgia.2

     Marie Slade was born on August 19, 1915 in Meansville, Pike County, Georgia.1 She was the daughter of Joseph Samuel Slade and Odessa Maddox.1 Marie Slade was a school teacher & librarian.2
     Marie married first Daniel Boone Pace, son of Robert Pace and Virginia Marcum, on June 24, 1950 in Meansville, Georgia.2
     Marie married second Seth Edward Brandenstein on July 16, 1983 in Sterling Heights, Macomb County, Michigan.3 Marie died on January 5, 2009 in Florida at age 93 and was buried in Fincher Memorial Cemetery, Meansville, Pike County, Georgia.4 Her obituary read as follows:

      St. Petersburg Times (FL) - January 7, 2009 - BRANDENSTEIN, Marie Slade Pace 93, of Lutz, died Jan. 5. She was born in Meansville, GA & came to Florida 33 years ago. She was a teacher for Brevard Co., a member of Community United Methodist Church, United Daughters of Confederacy & a volunteer at Community Hospital with 5000 hours. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia P. Crenshaw, Lutz; 3 grandchildren, Michelle, Christine & Joseph & 2 great-grandchildren, Amanda & Sadie. She is preceded in death by two good yankee husbands, Daniel Pace & Seth Brandenstein & a son, Joseph Robert Pace. Visitation Wednesday, 3:30-5:30 pm, followed by a chapel service at 5:30 pm at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home 5228 Trouble Creek Rd. New Port Richey.4
