     Frances Alma Slade was born on April 9, 1918 in Hamilton, Harris County, Georgia.2,1 She was the daughter of John Gordon Slade and Mary Alma Barfield.3
     Frances married Emory Blackwell.3 Frances died on July 4, 2010 at age 924 and was buried in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama.5 Her obituary, published July 6, 2010 in the Gadsden Times read:
     Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Crestwood Chapel for Frances Alma Blackwell "Nanny," 92, Gadsden, who died Sunday, July 4, 2010. The Rev. Steve Bush will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. Frances was born in Clinchfield, Ga., in 1918. Frances was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of Eastside Presbyterian Church for many years prior. She was an avid golfer and member of Goodyear Golf Course (River Trace). She enjoyed playing golf with her friends at River Trace on Tuesdays and Thursdays and with "the girls" over the many years. Many in the community also knew Frances as the "candy lady" during the Christmas holidays. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Blackwell; daughter, Anita Nelson; son, Gordon Blackwell; grandson, James Nelson (Jay); son-in-law, John Smallwood; brother, John Doyle Slade; sister, Vivian Bottoms; and sister, Evelyn Alford Boyd. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Smallwood; son, Doug Blackwell (Pam); daughter-in-law, Sarah Frazier (Eric); sisters, Helen Reynolds and Lydia Gottlieb; brother-in-law, Curtis Boyd; and other close relative, Garth Saunders; grandchildren, Keith Blackwell (Andrea), Kevin Blackwell (Tana), Erica Frazier, John Smallwood (Natasha), Jennifer Smallwood, Melissa Bush (Steve), Emily Anastasia (John) and Nicole Hill (Larry); great-grandchildren, Kileigh, Bailee, Preslee, Josie, Sophie, Cali, Lani, GeorgiaRain, Slayde and Brandi; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Keith Blackwell, Kevin Blackwell, John Smallwood, John Anastasia, Larry Hill and Greg Faulkner.5
