     John Dennis Gardner was born on October 23, 1867 in Spalding County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of William Zedrick Gardner and Caroline Myrtice Cauthen.³ John D's middle name is often shown as Davis by some researchers, and Davis is used for one of his children. However his obituary has it as Dennis. Also, Dennis is used many times as a given name in his mother's Cauthen family, leading us to believe Dennis is more likely correct.⁴
     John married Emma Jean Slade, daughter of William Harrison Slade and Prudence Emily Brooks, in Georgia.¹ John died on December 16, 1931 in 224 Fourth Street, Albany, Georgia, at age 64.^1,2 He was buried in Oakview Cemetery, Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia.²

     William Zedrick Gardner was born on May 6, 1839 in Georgia father born Virginia, mother born Georgia.^2,1
     William married Caroline Myrtice Cauthen, daughter of Thomas M. Cauthen and Mary "Polly" Sims, on December 2, 1858. William died in June, 1925 at age 86. He was buried in Liberty Hill Cemetery, North of Barnsville, Lamar County, Georgia.
