Samuel Slade Jr. was born circa 1753 based upon estimated marriage date of his parents and his being at least 21 to be listed on 1782 tax roll. This is somewhat confirmed as he was listed as male older than 45 on the 1810 Southampton census. Samuel was named as Executor of his father's will.1,2 He was the son of Samuel Slade and Mary [?]. Samuel, Jr. bought 175 acres from John Haisty for 50 pounds. Deed witnessed by Lawrence Joyner, Benjamin Spivey, & Thomas Love.3 On May 12, 1785, Samuel, Jr, bought 100 acres in Southampton County from Samuel Sandeford for 25 pounds.4 On July 14, 1785, Samuel Slade Jr. sold 175 acres of land in Southampton County to Hardy Doyell. Witnessed by Edward Fisher, Arthur Bowing, Wm Williams & Carr Doyell.5 Samuel Slade Jr. was New Tag 0 white male 16-21, no blacks, 3 cattle in 1787 in Southampton County, Virginia.6 He was New Tag 0 white males 16-21, no blacks, 1 horse, 3 cattle in 1787 in Virginia.7 Samuel Slade, Jr. sold the last of the property he acquired, Samuel Sandeford's 100 acres to Joseph Vick for 31 pounds, 10 shillings. Total profit from the two purchases and two sales = 60+31+10 rec'd - 50 + 25 pd = 16 pounds 10 shillings profit in Virginia on June 10, 1790.8 He was purchased land 100 acres Plantation Messuage.9 On February 15, 1801 Joshua Slade bought 105 acres in Southampton County from his brother Samuel, Jr. The deed indicates that Samuel Jr., lived in Nansemond County, Virginia, Upper Parish, at that time and his wife was listed as Littise. Joshua's wife was listed as Sarah.10 On February 15, 1802 Samuel Slade, Jr. & wife Lettise sold 105 acres in Southampton County to Joshua Slade for $150. Land bordered John Crichlow, Elias Hale, Henry Love, and Joshua's existing property. Witnesses: Nicholas Brister, James Gardner, Lemmy Council. The deed indicates that Samuel, Jr. lived in Nasemond County, Virginia, Upper Parish, at that time.11,12
