Coburn. William W. Slade was New Tag 1920 shows both parents born Vermont in 1839 in Missouri.1 He [The 1880 census indicates his father was born in Vermont and his mother was born in New York. The 1900 census shows his father was born in Vermont and his mother in Pennsylvania. The 1910 census indicates both parents were born New York and the 1920 shows both parents were born in Vermont]. William enlisted as a Private in Co. L of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Sept 1, 1861 and was mustered into federal service on Sept 24. He was promoted 5 times, finally to 2nd Sgt on Sept 16, 1865. He was mustered out Feb 15, 1866.5
