He is survived by his wife of 18 years Ellen Huntington Slade; his brother William M.I. Slade of Clarksville, Maryland; his sons Clarke W. Slade III (Margaret) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and John B. Slade of Abington, Pennsylvania, his stepchildren Bruce Flowers of Brooklyn, New York, Kendra Allen (Ben) of Portland, Maine, Sarah Bryant (Ben) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Emily Gilbert (Caleb) of Rockport, Massachusetts; two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
A chemist who specialized in marketing research, Mr. Slade started his business career with American Cyanamid in New York City. Later, after serving in the Army, in 1959 he moved to Wilmington where he joined the Atlas Powder Company, now the Astra Zeneca Corporation, where he held various corporate management positions during his 31 years of service.
Mr. Slade was involved with numerous chemical industry organizations and was treasurer and later president of the Chemical Marketing Research Association. He served on the board of Contact Delaware and was an active Princeton alumnus who interviewed prospective students. After his retirement, he pursued an interest in archaeology by participating on numerous archaeological "digs" around the world. He was a volunteer with the FAITH center and a treasurer and board member of the English Speaking Union. He attended the Academy of Lifelong Learning.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 E. Buck Road, Greenville, Delaware, on May 30th at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests a donation to Christ Church Christiana Hundred.
