Robert Joseph Hugh LaPierre 83, of North Adams passed away on Sunday August 7, 2016 at the Berkshire Medical Center North. He was a Korean War veteran serving with the United States Army as a Corporal and was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Bob graduated from the Franklin Institute where he went for 12 years at night, while working two job. He then obtained his bachelors of Science degree in 1972 from North Adams State College. Bob also took classes at Williams College. He was employed at Sprague Electric Co. as a wage and compensation manager. After Sprague closed he was employed as a sales associate at Sear Roebuck in Lanesboro. Bob was a third degree Mason with the Greylock Lodge and member of the Order of Mount Moriah in the year 1967.He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of North Adams since 1956. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Mary (Slade) LaPierre whom he married on January 22, 1955 at the First Baptist Church of North Adams. One son Michael LaPierre and his wife Darlene of Adams and one granddaughter Danielle LaPierre. He also leaves one sister Joan Farinon of North Adams and several nieces and nephews. Anne (Whelan) Slade November 22, 2020 Anne (Whelan) Slade, 86, of Camillus, N.Y., passed away peacefully, on
November 22, at Upstate Community Hospital ICU. Anne was born and raised in
Syracuse, NY. She was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School. Her employment included NY Telephone Company, St. Patrick's High School, as a secretary; also she retired from Consolidated Industries. After retirement, she worked part-time at Gertrude Hawk, her favorite chocolate store, Anne enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She was never shy to offer her ideas and opinions. Anne spent many years playing cards in her club. Being Irish, her heritage was a source of pride and especially being one of the original "Potato Ladies" in the annual St. Patrick's Parade. Anne enjoyed watching golf, and SU games, along with reading, and swimming were also valued past times. Anne was very appreciative of all the emotional and physical support provided by dear friends and family members. Especially, niece Sheila Quinn, who acted as her primary advocate and support. Anne was predeceased by her loving
daughter and granddaughter, Diane and Catherine Lischak.
Her parents Edward and Eva Whelan, her
sister Mary Pat Quinn and brothers, James, Thomas and John Whelan. Anne is
survived by her daughter,
Mary Beth Cook, grand daughter, Diane Cook and great granddaughter, Rylee Kulp. Also, son-in-law, Frank Lischak and sister -in-laws, Lillian, Carol, Mary Whelan, Carol (John) Doyle, and several nieces and nephews.
