Katherine Salina Callaway1

(20 April 1932 - 14 November 2011)
Katherine Salina Callaway was born on April 20, 1932 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah.1 She was the daughter of William Callaway and Jesse Rudd.1
Katherine married Daniel Edwin Slade, son of George E. Slade and Edna Irene Adair, on June 21, 1956 in Los Angeles County, California.1 Katherine was widowed when her husband, Daniel, died on April 19, 1997 in Ventura, California, at age 77.2 Katherine died on November 14, 2011 in Ventura County, California, at age 79.1 Her obituary read as follows:

Katherine Salina (Kathy) Slade, 79, passed away at home on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, of long-term illness.
Kathy was born April 20, 1932, in Ogden, Utah, to William Callaway and Jesse Rudd. She had one sister, Gueneve Callaway, who preceded her in death. Because Kathy's mother died when she was four-years-old, she was raised by her grandparents, Jesse Rudd and Salina Redford, and also by two of her aunts, Ruby Dow of Ogden, Utah, and Della Hatch of Tetonia, Idaho.
Kathy received a scholarship to Weber State where she graduated with an Associate's degree in 1953 and then completed her Bachelor's degree in nursing in 1955. On June 21, 1956, she married Daniel E. Slade in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That same year, she began working for the State of California at the Camarillo State Hospital in Camarillo. She started out in the Medical Surgery department and advanced to the position of Program Director prior to retiring in 1994.
Kathy enjoyed reading, serving her church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and supporting her grandchildren in their many activities. Kathy will always be remembered for her selfless, kind, and caring nature. She was very generous with her time and resources, and frequently helped others at any hour of the day. She loved traveling to see family, and often traveled to Orcutt and Utah for vacations, reunions, and weekend visits. She loved her grandchildren and was a veteran spoiler; consequently, her grandchildren always got excited when they went to Grandma's or knew that Grandma was coming to visit. In a time when society has increasingly deemed the institutions of marriage, family, and religion to be irrelevant, she served as a strong, shining example to her own family of how important these things are. Throughout her own life she showed how much happiness and strength she received through marriage, family, and religion.
Kathy is survived by her children, son, Gary Slade of Ventura; son, Hal Slade and wife Nina of Ventura; son, Rusty Slade and wife Jeanne of Centerville, Utah; son, William Slade and wife Lisa of Orcutt, Calif; nine grandchildren and three great-granddaughters also miss their grandma.1
