Mavis married Robert Bigelow Slade, son of Raleigh Walter Slade and Jetlie Lee Warren, on August 9, 1943 in Rapid City, Pennington County, South Dakota.2,3 Mavis died on November 13, 2015 at age 912 and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, Coddington County, South Dakota.2 Her obituary read as follows:
Elaine H. Slade, age 91, of Watertown, passed away on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Robert Slade.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at First Baptist Church in Watertown. The Rev. Greg Berkey will officiate. Music will be provided by Eloise Falk as organist with Natalie Berkey as soloist.
The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 1:30 for a prayer service. Visitation will take place on Friday prior to services at the church.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Jenkins Living Center. Active pallbearers will be Roger Hansen, Eric Hansen, Nathan Hansen, John Day, Amanda Hansen and Jaimie Day.

Elaine attended elementary and junior high school in Webster before graduating from Summit High School in 1942.
On Aug. 9, 1943, Elaine married Robert Slade in Rapid City. To this union, two children were born, Robert and Marilyn. Elaine and Robert lived in Marshall, Minn., Omaha Neb., and for a short time they lived in Watertown where she worked at Star Laundry and in the lunchroom at Watertown Sr. High School. Elaine and Robert moved to Grand Forks, N.D., in 1969. She started working for the food service department for the University of North Dakota (UND) in 1969. She worked there for 19 years, 13 of those years as the assistant manager. They returned to Watertown in 1988 where they have resided since. Robert passed away in 1996.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and Eastern Star for over 50 years. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved knitting, embroidery, watching UND hockey, fishing at Minnesota’s ‘Lake of the Woods’ and doing her Bible studies.
Elaine is survived by one son, Robert (Alma) Slade of Fort Worth, Texas; one son-in-law, Bob Day of Watertown; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Marilyn Day; and three brothers, Roger, Donald and Merle Hartman.
