Zachary married Delphine Place in 1868 in Pennsylvania.5 Zachary died on September 28, 1925 in Borden, Steuben County, New York, at age 78.2 He was buried in Highland Cemetery, Elkland, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.6 His obituary read as follows:
Z. T. Slade, of Borden, N. Y., who was formerly a resident of this place for many years, was found dead in bed Monday morning, Sept. 28. Death is thought to have occurred during the night, due to heart trouble. He was 72 years of age. Mr. Slade is survived by his widow and three sons, Fred Slade and Perle Slade, of Elkland and John Slade of Osceola, R. D. Mr. Slade was a highly respected citizen and has many friends in this place who were saddened to hear of his demise. The funeral will be held at the M. E. church of this place Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. T. S. Alty officiating; interment in the Highland cemetery at Elkland.6

It is believed that the wife of Samuel Slade, Jr was Matilda Irby.3 Samuel, Jr. is found in the 1800 census, living in Barnwell District, South Carolina, next to his father, Samuel Slade, Sr.4,5 In November, 1808, Samuel Slade, [apparently Samuel, Jr], was granted a passport by the Govenor or Georgia, to pass through the Creek Nations to the territory of Mississippi. He settled in Washington County in the territory of Mississippi and later moved to Hancock County. Mississippi became a state in 1817. Samuel was appointed the first Justice of the Peace in Hancock County in 1818. His wife Matilda apparently died about 1818. After 1820, Samuel moved to Marion County. By 1830 he had married again and was in Perry County. It is believed that his second wife was named Sarah.6,7,8 Samuel died between August, 1842 and August, 1843 in Perry County, Mississippi, Samuel's second wife Sarah died in 1845.9
