     Calvin Griffin Slade was born on November 30, 1854 in Marion County, Mississippi.1,2 He was the son of Hezekiah Slade and Helena Victoria Taylor.
     Calvin married Harriet Matilda Fillingame, daughter of Austin Fillingame and Mary Jane Anderson, on August 7, 1873.1 Calvin was a farmer and bought land in the Okahola community near Purvis, where he settled and raised his family. He would take a team of oxen on a wagon train to the Gulf Coast for supplies. The round trip journey would take about two weeks. Calvin was a member of the old Central Baptist Church, near his home place. The young folk would come to his house on Sundays, play the organ and sing gospel songs.1 Calvin died on October 14, 1924 at age 692 and was buried in Boone Cemetery, Lamar County, Mississippi.3,2

Charlie Guy Slade1

     Charlie Guy Slade went by Mack.2 He was born on November 11, 1889 in Perry County, Mississippi.1 He was the son of William Franklin Slade and Sarah Caroline Davis.
     Charlie married Martha Estella DuBose, daughter of Burwell David DuBose and Selidia Overstreet, on January 7, 1916 in Forrest County, Mississippi.3,4 Charlie Guy Slade was registered in the draft for World War I on June 6, 1917 in McLaurin, Forrest County, Mississippi.5 He and Martha Estella DuBose were divorced.6 Charlie died on September 21, 1964 at age 747 and was buried in Tyner Cemetery at Clear Branch Church, Lamar County, Mississippi.8 His obituary read as follows:

      Services were held at 3 pm Wednesday at Clear Branch Baptist Church for Charles Guy "Mack" Slade who died Monday at the county home. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr Slade was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Guy Lavelle Slade; Three sisters: Mrs C W (Elna) Newman, Mrs Jack (Lobelia ) Downs, and Mrs Marinda Dubose; Two brothers: Rimbert of Purvis and Albert of Biloxi.8
