Samuel S. Slade1

(19 June 1843 - 24 May 1926)
     Samuel S. Slade was born on June 19, 1843 in Marion County, Mississippi.2 He was the son of Hezekiah Slade and Helena Victoria Taylor. Samuel Slade served in the Civil War with the Jeff Davis Sharp Shooters, 7th Mississippi Volunteers at the age of 20. He was wounded when a Yankee miniball struck him between the eyes. His hat absorbed most of the impact. When his hat was removed, the miniball fell out. The wound left a scar. Samuel was a blacksmith and a miller.2
     Samuel married first Arretta Davis, daughter of Christopher Davis and Virginia Stewart, on December 12, 1864.2
     Samuel married second Eurmia Wardene on March 18, 1901.2
     Samuel married third Sarah Eliza Graham on March 30, 1906.2 Samuel died on May 24, 1926 at age 82 at the home of his daughter, Sallie, in Purvis.1 He was buried in Slade Cemetery, Lamar County, Mississippi.1

Mr. Slade was owner of Slade's TV Repair and salesman with Norris Byrd Chrysler-Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius "Skeet" and Matilda Namie Slade; his first wife, Tommie Elizabeth Hale-Slade, his second wife, Ann Carter-Slade; and a daughter, Donna Diane Slade. Survivors include a daughter, Renell Owen of Lumberton; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.3
